Por Una Cabeza
Carlos Gardel
tango
Gardel wrote it in 1935 with Alfredo Le Pera, months before both died in a plane crash in Medellín. The title is a horse-racing term — losing by a head — and the song runs the gambler and the lover together as the same kind of man.
Its modern fame comes from film: Scent of a Woman, Schindler's List, True Lies. It is the tango that non-tango audiences know.
