La Confession

Lhasa de Sela

folk

Lhasa de Sela was born in the United States to a Mexican father and an American mother, grew up partly in a school bus travelling between the two countries, and made her career in Montreal singing in Spanish, French and English.

She recorded three albums and died at thirty-seven. The voice is unusually low and unhurried, and the arrangements borrow from ranchera, klezmer and cabaret without settling in any of them.
