Jazz Suite No. 2: VI. Waltz 2
USSR State Symphony Orchestra
classical
Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2, from what is usually printed as the Jazz Suite No. 2 and is in fact the Suite for Variety Orchestra — a misattribution so widespread that the wrong title has effectively won.
It is the piece Kubrick used to open Eyes Wide Shut, which is why a Soviet light-music waltz now reads to most people as faintly sinister rather than cheerful.
