Back to Her Man

Damien Rice is the Irish songwriter behind O and 9, and this is one of the rarities rather than one of the singles — the kind of track that circulates through live recordings and reuploads more than through official releases.

It sits in the register he is best at: one voice, sparse accompaniment, a lot of empty space, and a delivery that gets quieter exactly where another singer would push. He is notoriously slow to release anything — three albums in twenty years — which is part of why the loose recordings matter to people who follow him.
