Nazım Hikmet'le 3,5 Yıl
Orhan Kemal
memoirturkish-literature
Orhan Kemal shared a prison cell with Nâzım Hikmet in Bursa for three and a half years, and this is his account of it — Hikmet reading him Tolstoy, correcting his grammar, and effectively teaching him to be a writer.
Both were imprisoned for their politics. Kemal went on to become one of the major Turkish novelists of the century, and he is clear about where that came from.
